Apollo Training Handouts & Manuals

The preparation of student training handouts led the development of other official system handbooks. Technical writer personnel coming on board to prepare such documentation were often phased through the systems training courses. Also, engineering test personnel of the customer and the company were exposed to this training in preparation for their tasks.

Instructor personnel worked with the engineering staff at the beginning of the program to review engineering design specifications to support the preparation of systems drawings and schematics for training purposes. Often, these data became official engineering information as well.

Many requests for copies of these training handouts were received from customer and company personnel throughout the program.. For the most part, each manual contained a number of topic illustrations, drawings, and schematics. Descriptive text was omitted since the manuals were used primarily for various levels of classroom instruction. Many of the instructors aided in the development of the official Apollo Operations Handbooks as well.

Copies of these training manuals are among the Space History Artifact Collection at the Smithsonian Institution, Division of the National Air & Space Museum (NASM), Washington, DC, along with other items of the Apollo Spacecraft. The Training Team takes great pride in this achievement.
